about KC Bernedoodles

KC Bernedoodles is a premier breeder of gorgeous, intelligent, and playful Bernedoodle puppies which weigh 30–45 lbs when full grown. We began with Labradoodles and discovered through research and family interviews that the Bernedoodles were a better match for most families. So we became one of the first (if not the first!) to breed Bernedoodles in Kansas City.

Bernedoodle puppies are a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. Bernedoodles are designer dogs, and ours are either the coveted second generation (F1b) or the top-tier multigen, which means they are fully furnished, hypoallergenic, and nonshedding but with the ability to have curly, wavy, or straight coats. They have a sweet disposition, are playful, and have incredibly soft fur.

Bernedoodles will bring constant joy with their sweet and loving temperaments, unique look, and be your life-long companions.

We live in Kansas City and are a family that loves our dogs. Our three current Bernedoodle mothers are a red Bernedoodle named Paisley, a sable named Kaya Mae, and a tricolor named Mabel. Paisley’s first litter was in June 2022 and her last will be at the end of 2024. Kaya’s first is expected in late 2023, and Mabel’s first is expected in mid-2025.

We are not a puppy mill, are selective about when and how we breed our dogs, and only breed them for a few years. We keep our business small to give individual attention to each puppy, to prioritize the health of the mother, and of course to keep us sane. Our dogs are part of our family and we think our puppies would be a great addition to your family as well!

We feed our dogs high-quality dog food from Life’s Abundance so they receive the right amounts of protein, nutrients, and healthy fats for their ages. (But never, ever grain-free!)

We have tried everything from Purina Pro and NutriSource on the low and medium end, to Merrick and Fromm on the high end. Some are so rich that they give puppies diarrhea, and others have too many fillers to be healthy. You can order the Puppy formulation at this link and the All Life Stages food at this link (choose the larger bag size before checkout).

We live in a quiet neighborhood on an acre of land where our dogs have the freedom to run, play, and enjoy their days alongside our four children, ages 16, 17, 18, and 19.

About Bernedoodles

What is a Bernedoodle?

Bernedoodles are a mix of a hearty Bernese Mountain Dog (a carting dog) and an intelligent Poodle. They are considered a designer dog because there aren’t too many around, unlike Golden Retrievers or other well known breeds.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way — Bernedoodles are probably the cutest puppies in the world! Their fur is fluffy, lightweight, and the softest coat you’ll find, and ours hardly shed at all. Bernedoodles have spurts of energy that last around 30 minutes and then they want to rest. They are smart about locating the nearest vent and sitting next to it to cool off in the summer.

Bernedoodles learn quickly with consistent boundaries and repetition, and always approach their owners for some love as soon as they see them. They love their owners but aren’t pushy or dependent, and they can entertain themselves or play with another family pet. (In fact, having two puppies is easier than having one because they entertain each other instead of relying on you as their main source of interaction.)

Bernedoodles are great with young kids and they have a curious and goofy side, which makes them great all-around pets. Our Mini-Bernedoodles range between 30–45 pounds when full grown, and they remain strong and gentle throughout their life.

We post pictures and videos on our Instagram and Facebook accounts of these cuties, so make sure to follow us there!

Since we’ve been breeding for a few years already, our waitlists are usually full before the litters are born. So if you’re interested in getting on the waitlist or have a few questions, scroll down and choose the Email Now button below. We’ll respond right away.

Bernedoodle rates

Our Bernedoodles are designer dogs, as well as being either the coveted second-generation F1b or multigen. Our Bernedoodles may have a lot of fur but they hardly shed at all, which is wonderful for all families, but especially those with allergy concerns. Our puppies are expected to be completely non-shedding, have the possibility of all three coat types, increased hypoallergenic quality, increased intelligence, and less genetic problems. It’s great for the breed and great for your family!

Reservation Deposit

Puppy reservations are made in order of cleared deposit. This means that when the deposit has been cleared, the family’s name is added to the list; first cleared, first added. Exact puppy choice happens at around six weeks, either by phone, via email with photographs, or video chat. We will make every effort to help you make the best decision for your family and lifestyle needs. Please see additional information in the Puppy Selection section of Policies and Procedures.

$25 per day Boarding

If unable to pick up your puppy at the designated day and time, daily boarding will be charged at the cost of $25 per day. Puppies will not be released until daily boarding charges are paid in full.

IMPORTANT: See the Policies sections for further details. All prices are nonnegotiable. All deposits are nonrefundable. The customer acknowledges and agrees to the terms laid out on this website. KC Bernedoodles reserves the right to have the first choice of all litters. We also reserve the right to refuse sale of our puppies to any party for any reason or no reason, based on our own judgment.

Bernedoodles are not sold with breeding rights. Bernedoodles are sold with a legally binding spay/neuter contract. Prior to the puppy turning 10 months old, the spay/neuter surgery must be competently completed by the customer’s veterinary surgeon, the paperwork must be signed by that same vet, and then a copy mailed/emailed back to KC BernedoodlesFailure to spay/neuter by 10 months will result in a fee of 3x the sale price at that time, as it is reasonably assumed the customer intends to breed the dog in violation of the contract. Any breeding of the Bernedoodle, whether by accident or on purpose, is a violation of the contract and will incur an immediate fee of 3x the purchase price. By instituting any step in the process, the customer acknowledges and agrees to these terms and to paying the contract violation fee in full.

Bernedoodles are also sold with a list of both requirements and suggestions for the health, safety, well-being, and longevity of the dog. Customers must take these requirements, suggestions, and financial investments under consideration prior to purchasing a KC Bernedoodles puppy.

Guardian Home Opportunities

Every so often we choose a new puppy to add to our breeding program and need to find the right family with which it will live forever. This is known as a Guardian home and the Guardian is a partner in taking great care of the dog.

We are currently looking for a Guardian family who may have one of our Winter 2024 puppies. It starts with a phone call, a visit to see your home, and then a decision. The contract might initially look like a lot, but we keep the lines clear: The Guardian will have the puppy forever and be responsible for its daily and annual care, and we will be responsible for everything related to breeding, labor and delivery, and whelping. For a female Guardian home, the dog will need to stay at our house with her new puppies for about six weeks, but a male might only be gone for a few hours to a couple days at the most.

Guardians have a few requirements:

  • Must live within 40 miles of our home in South Kansas City

  • Must not be moving for a minimum of 5 years

  • Must have a physically fenced yard (no invisible fences)

  • Must use the dog food we use

  • Must use the vet we use

  • Must commit to training the dog well

  • Must be a great and responsive communicator

Being a Guardian home isn’t the right thing for most families, but for some it works out very well. The generic Guardian contract is attached here. If you’re interested, please reach out through the contact form and we’ll schedule a time to talk.

CONTACT KC BernedoodleS

If you have questions, would like to get on our Waiting List, reserve your puppy, or be considered for a Guardian home, please contact us! We love discussing our puppies.

We Provide

We take care of our puppies and prepare them to go home with you in these ways:

  1. Dewclaw removal.

  2. Three rounds of dewormer.

  3. First round of vaccinations.

  4. First veterinarian visit for checkup.

  5. Final veterinarian checkup before going home.

  6. Tons of socialization and love from a family of six.

  7. List of suggestions (puppy training, toys, food, veterinarian, etc.)

  8. And lifetime support, should you need it.

Our promise to you is simple: We provide incredible companion Bernedoodles, and we do so with integrity, forthrightness, and assistance to find the best furry family member for you. Before they become part of your household, they are part of ours, so we play with them, provide for them, and treat them as family, knowing you will do the same.

Mixed breeds cannot be AKC certified, so we do not provide certification. We also believe microchipping your puppy should be your choice, so we do not microchip our puppies but strongly recommend you do. We highly recommend proper puppy training and consistent reinforcement to have the best relationship with your dog. We provide information on a partner puppy training program with lots of online videos.

Bernedoodles are not sold with breeding rights. Bernedoodles are sold with a legally binding spay/neuter contract. Prior to the puppy turning 10 months old, the spay/neuter surgery must be competently completed by the customer’s veterinary surgeon, the paperwork must be signed by that same vet, and then a copy mailed back to KC Bernedoodles. Failure to spay/neuter by 10 months will result in a fee of 3x the sale price at that time, as it is reasonably assumed the customer intends to breed the dog in violation of the contract.

Reservation Deposit

Serious inquiries only. Anyone can be added to the Waiting List with a completed deposit, but KC Bernedoodles reserves the right to the first pick of all litters. Puppy reservations are made in order of cleared deposit. This means that when the deposit has been cleared, the customer’s name is added to the waitlist; the first cleared is the first added. Keep in mind that this means if you send a check by mail, another family could move ahead in line if they pay electronically. We will make every effort to help you make the best decision for your needs.

PROCESS:  By instituting any step in the process, the customer acknowledges and agrees to these terms. The customer further agrees that they have no recourse.

  1. Once the customer has decided they want to purchase a puppy, they must email us stating so. Customers must remit the deposit amount in either cash, check, or through digital deposit. We will provide the account information for the deposit.

  2. Once the deposit is received, the customer’s name will be entered on the website in order of the received and cleared deposit. Cleared deposits are the only way to reserve a puppy; no cleared deposit means no puppy reservation. Deposits are nonrefundable. By instituting any step in the process, the customer acknowledges and agrees to these terms. The customer further agrees that they have no recourse.

  3. Deposits are considered a commitment, and we understand that the puppy will have a home with your family.

  4. Final payment for the balance owed must be cleared before pickup. Unfortunately, we do not accept checks at the time of pick up for the final payment on a puppy because all payments must be cleared. We accept final payment in either cash or cashier’s check. Any daily boarding charges must also be settled prior to pick up.

  5. REFUNDS: When a family places a deposit, that waitlist spot is considered taken. The only time a refund will be given is if KC Bernedoodles cancels the purchase due to unforeseen circumstances, otherwise deposits are always non-refundable.

Puppy Selection

Anyone can be added to the Waiting List with a completed deposit, but KC Bernedoodles reserves the right to the first pick of all litters. When the puppies are born, they are given a color-coded collar. Puppies are discussed by their collar color, though our kids have a tendency to name them as well. Exact puppy choice happens by video interactions, exchanging photos, or through phone conversations at week six so their personality has time to develop. We will make every effort to help you make the best decision for your individual needs. For the health of the puppies, we do not allow visitors.

PROCESS:

  1. Once the litter is born, we will make an announcement on social media. Each family should take advantage of watching the puppies on our posts, streams, and Q&A as they grow to be ready to choose when it is time.

  2. Exact puppy choice begins on week six. Waiting this long allows us to get to know their personalities and help guide you to make the best choice. Choosing a puppy occurs in waiting list order.

  3. To facilitate all families making timely decisions, each customer has 2 hours from when we contact you (beginning on week six) to choose your puppy. We make every effort to lead you through the process of choosing the best companion for your individual needs and lifestyle, so please let us know your situation and preferences.

  4. Failure to choose within that 2 hours forfeits your turn, and you will move to the end of the line.

  5. Puppies are not allowed to go home with customers until around week 8, and, though it’s rare, only before week 8 if they are properly weaned and exhibit independence since each puppy has its own personality, ability, and needs. The key is to let the puppy have the time it needs with its mother and siblings, and transition the puppy to its new family as soon as it is properly able, in order to bond with them early and well. This usually happens at around 8 weeks.

  6. By pick up time your puppy will not be dependent upon its mother since it will have been weaned starting around week 4.

  7. For the health of our family and animals, we cannot take back a puppy once it has left our home, but we can help you find a new home for them. Please contact us first if the need arises to rehome your puppy.

  8. Pick up must occur in person. We currently do not ship puppies, but let us know if you have an extenuating circumstance that needs to be addressed.

We love discussing our puppies but we are not a pet store, so we do not ever allow visitors. Puppies can readily catch deadly diseases, such as Parvo, kennel cough, distemper, and many others, which are easily spread from one kennel to another or one dog to another. For the safety of our own home, for the puppies awaiting their new homes, and for puppies who already have deposits on them, we cannot allow visitors. Thank you for understanding!

No Recourse

Be certain you want a KC Bernedoodles puppy prior to starting the process. We do not guarantee: temperament, size, color, intelligence, affectation, obedience, trainability, shedding, hypoallergenic quality, personality, or hair type, among other qualities, and these may change over the course of the puppy’s life. This is not an exhaustive list. No refunds will be given and, though this is rare, we reserve the right to refuse sale of our puppies to anyone, at any time, for any reason, or no reason, based on our own judgment. KC Bernedoodles reserves the right to first pick of all litters. All decisions by KC Bernedoodles are final, as are all sales.

By instituting any step in the process, the customer acknowledges and agrees to these terms. The customer further agrees that they have no recourse.
